The first leg of Fantasy Champions League R16 is divided into 4 playing day.
It increases our chances for good captaincy return as we can change our captain 3 times if he blanks.
We prefer to pick a captain from easy fixture.
We have already analyzed, which fixtures are easiest in R16 in previous article: UCL Fantasy, which teams to focus on?
Now, we are going to continue with UCL Fantasy Tips for R16 and we are going to focus on best captain option for every playing day.
For the 1st leg of R16, we picked four standout captaincy fixtures (one for every day):
- 16 Feb: Leipzig vs. Liverpool
- 17 Feb: Sevilla vs. Dortmund
- 23 Feb: Lazio vs. Bayern
- 24 Feb Mgladbach vs. Man City
Let’s look closely at captaincy pick from these games:
Best captain for UCL Fantasy R16
Tuesday 16 Feb: Mohamed Salah (LEI (A))
Liverpool have not been convincing lately, however, their fantasy assets could do well against Leipzig.
We consider Mohamed Salah to be the best captaincy options from Liverpool team.
Egyptian is leading golden boot race in the Premier League with 16 goals.
The Reds play on Tuesday 16 Feb, so even if Salah fails to deliver, you will have plenty other captaincy options during following days.
Wednesday 17 Feb: Erling Haaland (SEV (A))
Haaland is back from injury and he continues in his great form.
After he had recovered from a muscle injury, he played 8 games in domestic competitions and scored 5 goals in them.
Alongside Morata, Rashford and Neymar, he is leading goal scorer of current Champions League campaign.
Young Norwegian scored 6 goals in just 4 matches in the group stage.
And also thanks to Dortmund’s attacking style of play, we picked him as the best captaincy option for Wednesday 17 Feb over Juventus players.
Tuesday 23 Feb: Robert Lewandowski (LAZ (A))
Only three goals in Champions League for Polish international Robert Lewandowski this season so far.
It was frustrating for UCL Fantasy managers who kept faith with him until the very end of the group stage. Hopefully, Lewa will not fail them in the R16.
Bayern have very favorable fixture against Lazio in the R16.
Lewandowski scored 14 goals in his last 12 games for Bayern and we expect him to bring this form to the Champions League too.
Wednesday 24 Feb: Raheem Sterling (MON (A))
If all three previous captains fail, there is Mgladbach vs. Manchester City in the last day as our last captaincy fixture.
Citizens are currently dominating Premier League.
They are not scoring as many goals as they used to, but they are able to win their games, and they are not conceding many goals.
Raheem Sterling started to show glimpses of good form (4 goals in last 5 starts) and he is unlikely to be rotated from Pep Guardiola.
So, we are counting on him as our last captaincy option, if all the others disappoint.
