Best captain pick for FPL GW 33
We picked these three standout captaincy fixture for GW33:
- Leicester vs. Crystal Palace
- Leeds vs. Manchester United
- Liverpool vs. Newcastle
3. Jamie Vardy (CRY (H))
In the last game of the gameweek, Leicester faces Crystal Palace on Monday evening. Leicester strikers Vardy and Iheanacho are both captain contenders.
Jamie Vardy has been struggling the last few gameweeks, however, we have to point out that he has been underperforming his xG by quite a lot this season.
He scored just 12 goals from 16.1 xG, so he really should have scored more.
So, if you do not really believe in “form”, and you consider it to be just a “pattern” in randomness, you could pick Vardy as differential captain for GW33.
There will not be a lot of managers considering this move, and Vardy’s statistics from the whole season are very similar to the statistics from the previous season when he won the golden boot.
But, if your decision-making process of selecting a captain is more “form-based”, Kalechi Iheanacho is your man if you are keen on captaining a Leicester player against Crystal Palace.
2. Bruno Fernandes (LEE (A))
Just one goal and one assist in his last 7 Premier League games is not something we are used to from Bruno Fernandes.
However, we cannot rule him out of our captaincy thoughts just yet. With 218 points, Fernandes is still the top-scoring player (alongside Harry Kane) of this FPL season.
And in the last 7 matches – despite his low output in terms of FPL points – his underlying numbers were not that bad – he was averaging 2.29 shots per game and the same number of key passes per game.
The last time Manchester United face Leeds in Premier League, we saw a goal fest and 17 points haul from Portuguese.
Although in their last two games against City and Liverpool, Leeds has shown that they can beat the top 6 teams, their defensive numbers are still bad (3rd worst for most xG conceded and 6th worst for goals conceded).
This could be the game, where Bruno Fernandes could get back in form.
1. Mohamed Salah (NEW)
However, probably the most secure route in blank GW33 is captaining Mohamed Salah. He had his rest in the previous gameweek, so we can be pretty sure he will start against Newcastle.
Salah has only 2 goals in his last 8 games, but we know how reliable FPL asset he is. Newcastle’s defensive numbers this season are similar to Leeds’s.
The Magpies are 6th worst for xG conceded and 4th worst for goals conceded this season.
So, we are backing Mo Salah as our number one captain pick for GW33, because of the fixture and his reliability to deliver.
