The moment fantasy football managers have been waiting for happened much sooner than expected: UEFA EURO 2024 Fantasy Football launched today.

Let’s give a quick overview of EURO 2024 Fantasy.

What are the rules?

Rules are very similar to the rules of Fantasy Premier League and Fantasy Champions League we all love and you can read them all here.

  • The substitutions and captain changes during matchday are allowed, just as in UCL Fantasy.
  • The scoring system is identical to UCL Fantasy, including points from balls recovered (which was a game-changer for Fantasy Champions League – so, cheap defensive midfielders will be good fantasy assets), points for goals outside of the box, and MOTM awards.
  • The extra point for a long-range goal boosts the appeal of players like Kevin De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Ondrej Duda or other free-kick specialists.
  • Prices of players are pretty low in comparison to FPL, pretty similar to UCL Fantasy (and perhaps a bit lower) – so it will not be a problem to prepare a balanced squad with multiple heavy hitters
  • Very few defenders cost 6m, there should be a lot of good opportunities to find defenders good at balls recovered

Are there any chips?

There are two chips to use in EURO 2024 fantasy, the same chips just like in UCL fantasy:

  • one wildcard, when you get unlimited transfers before the matchday you activate it,
  • and a limitless wildcard that will allow you to make a fantasy team for one matchday without budget restrictions (similar to the Free Hit chip in FPL, just with an unlimited budget).

At FPL Reports, we will be discussing when is the best time to use chips in EURO 2024 fantasy later (of course, we will post it before the start of first matchday).

How many transfers can you make between matchdays?

In the group stage, there are two free transfers between matchdays, just as in UCL fantasy.

Of course, we have unlimited transfers before the R16. Then “just” 3 transfers before QF (first thoughts: this could be a good time to wildcard), then 4 before semifinals, and 5 before final.

Note.: The number of transfers in the elimination round is very low in comparison to UCL Fantasy, where we have 5 free transfers before the start of each elimination phase (+ 3 free transfers before replays, so basically 8 free transfers before each phase). But in EURO Fantasy, there are only 3,4 and 5 free transfers, which means you might consider holding wildcard (or even limitless) a bit longer and not use it in the group stage.

Which players have caught our eye after the game launched?

There was little time to analyze all the players (there is going to be time for that later in May), but these are players that caught our eye right after the game launched: Sané, Xavi Simons, Kvaratskheila – all just 7m, Jorginho – 5m, he should be good at balls recovered.

At FPL reports, we will bring you a lot more content about EURO 2024 Fantasy Football in the coming weeks and, of course, a lot of content and tips after the game starts.

We will be posting regular tips with the captain and our selection before every matchday, clean sheet odds, goalscoring odds, and more.

Stay tuned and good luck in picking your team for EURO 2024 fantasy.
